Category: Competitions

The Competition consists of hands-on events hosted by aviation companies. The Council invites organizations to apply to host an event at upcoming competitions. Applications are due August 1, and selected hosts will be notified by September 1.

To apply, click “Register Now” and submit:

  • Event name
  • Event description
  • Number of participants required to complete the event (1–5)

Upon approval, hosts must submit event instructions, along with any bonuses and penalties for inclusion on the standard score sheet. These materials, along with final payment, are due by October 1 to secure your spot.

Event Host Responsibilities

Sponsorship & Expenses

Pay the sponsorship fee and all associated costs. The fee includes floor space, two six-foot tables, two chairs, and basic electrical service. Hosts are responsible for additional expenses, including equipment, freight, and show services (e.g., carpet, audiovisual, furniture).

Event Space

Operate entirely within the assigned space. All equipment, competitors, tables, chairs, and judges must fit within the designated area. Space is limited and assigned on a first-come, first-served basis.

Equipment & Materials

Provide all equipment and consumables needed to run two identical events simultaneously, allowing two teams to compete at the same time.

Judging

Provide enough representatives to judge two concurrent events throughout the competition. Judges must attend the required orientation the day before the competition begins.

Event Design & Timing

Design the event to be completed in under 15 minutes. While not all teams may finish, most should be able to do so within this timeframe. Judges must reset the event within the 5-minute transition between rounds.

Prizes

Provide prizes for the top-scoring teams at the closing ceremony. Prizes are at the sponsor’s discretion and typically include tools, gift cards, scholarships, or branded items.

Scorekeeping

Scores are based on completion time plus penalties and bonus points, as outlined in the standard score sheet (linked at the top of this page). Standard penalties apply to all events; any additional event-specific penalties must be clearly defined in the event procedures.

Event Procedures

Submit event procedures using the standard form for publication in the event manual, which helps competitors prepare. Examples are available on past competition pages. Blank forms are linked at the top of this page.
