Organization Overview
Aviation Maintenance Students
Aviation maintenance technicians keep private and commercial aircraft in FAA airworthy condition. They perform routine maintenance, engine overhauls, and inspection and repair of aircraft systems, including required FAA inspections to ensure safety. With an FAA Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) Technician Certificate, graduates are qualified to service, repair, and perform inspection duties on airframes and powerplants. This credential supports careers ranging from entry-level assembly work to advanced maintenance management and provides a strong foundation for aviation careers.
The Sky Is the Limit
The aviation industry is growing rapidly. Increased international air traffic, replacement of aging fleets, and retirement of experienced workers are driving demand for skilled technicians. Thousands of new engineers, technicians, and maintenance specialists will be needed nationwide in the coming years, with continued global demand for certified aviation professionals.
FAA-Approved AMTS
Miramar College offers the only FAA-approved Part 147 Aviation Maintenance Technology School in San Diego County (ID# CM9T065R). Students may earn a certificate toward the A&P license or an associate degree in airframe, powerplant, or both. The program includes more than 1,900 hours of instruction completed in three to five semesters. Classroom study and hands-on training cover aircraft structures, engines, systems, and maintenance techniques, with guidance from FAA-qualified instructors.
Work Experience and Affordability
Students may earn credit through supervised paid or unpaid work experience. As a community college, Miramar offers low tuition, with financial aid, scholarships, and VA benefits available. Graduates can also access job placement services and industry internship opportunities.
